Cosmetic Dentistry TreatmentsCrowns
Dental Crowns are a type of dental restoration which, when cemented into place, entirely covers or "caps" over the portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line. Since dental crowns encase the entire visible aspect of a tooth, a dental crown in effect becomes the tooth's new outer surface. Crowns can be made out of porcelain (meaning some sort of dental ceramic), metal (a gold or other metal alloy), or a combination of both. Dental crowns are routinely made for teeth that have broken, worn excessively, or else have had large portions destroyed by tooth decay. Your dentist may recommend a crown to; - Replace a large filling when there isn't enough tooth remaining
- Protect a weak tooth from fracturing
- Restore a fractured tooth
- Attach a bridge
- Cover a dental implant
- Cover a discoloured or poorly shaped tooth
- Cover a tooth that has had root canal treatment

Veneers
In dentistry, a veneer is a thin layer of restorative material placed over a tooth surface, either to improve the aesthetics of a tooth, or to protect a damaged tooth surface. Dental veneers are custom-designed shells of tooth-like ceramic material that, when applied over the surface of a tooth, can cover worn tooth enamel, uneven tooth alignment or spacing, and chips or cracks.
Worn enamel: Over time, the thin, hard white substance covering your teeth (enamel) may become worn, dulled, and discoloured. Such wear and discoloration may be natural or the result of a genetic predisposition; however, it is often a result of your habits (soft drinks, tea or coffee consumption, smoking, medication use, etc.).
Wear and tear: Teeth naturally wear down as people age. Aged teeth are more likely to have chips, cracks or a generally uneven appearance.
Crooked or Misaligned teeth: Certain people may be born with abnormal spacing between the teeth that grows wider as they age.
Uneven teeth: Uneven teeth can result from tooth grinding or general wear and tear.
Regardless of what causes unattractive teeth, dental veneers may solve most or even all of your cosmetic dental issues. If you are considering veneers but would like more information about the process of placing porcelain veneers and the cost of treatment, please contact us on 1850 323 323.

Bridges
Bridges are commonly used to replace one or more missing teeth. Gaps left by missing teeth eventually cause the remaining teeth to rotate or shift into the empty spaces, resulting in a bad bite. Missing teeth can cause a change in occlusion (bite), shifting of the teeth, temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), speech impediments, an increased risk for periodontal disease and a greater chance of tooth decay.
Bridges span the space where the teeth are missing. Bridges are cemented to the natural teeth or implants surrounding the empty space. These teeth, called abutments, serve as anchors for the bridge. A replacement tooth, called a pontic, is attached to the crowns that cover the abutments. As with crowns, you have a choice of materials for bridges. Your dentist can help you decide which to use, based on the location of the missing tooth (or teeth), its function, aesthetic considerations and cost. Porcelain or ceramic bridges can be matched to the colour of your natural teeth. In areas of your mouth that are under less stress, such as your front teeth, a cantilever bridge may be used. Cantilever bridges are used when there are teeth on only one side of the open space. Bridges can reduce your risk of gum disease, help correct some bite issues and even improve your speech. Bridges require your commitment to serious oral hygiene, but will last as many as ten years or more.

Dental Implants
A dental implant is a metal fixture (usually a screw) that is placed into the jaw bone. It acts as a support for a false tooth or a set of false teeth. The fixture fuses with the jaw bone (osseointegration). Implants are made of commercially and medically pure Titanium. This is the same metal that has been successfully used in hip replacements for many years. It is inert and is not known to cause any type of rejection phenomenon.
Dental implants provide a number of benefits for people seeking alternatives and solutions to the problems created by tooth loss. These benefits include: - Renewed ability to chew and speak properly
- Restoration of facial aesthetics
- Preservation of remaining jaw bone structure
- Reduction of possible gum problems and infections
- Increased confidence and self-esteem as a result of all of the above.
Dental Implants offer several major advantages to patients after tooth loss. The ability to recover the natural appearance of teeth is one of the greatest advantages.

Dentures
A denture is an appliance that is worn to replace natural teeth. Dentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be taken out and put back into your mouth. Dentures are usually made from lifelike resin teeth bonded to a plastic base. A complete denture replaces all your natural teeth. A partial denture is usually held in place by clasps or metal clips that fit around some of the remaining teeth. Dentures improve chewing ability and speech, and provide support for facial muscles.
Cleaning – like natural teeth, dentures need cleaning morning and night. The main purpose of cleaning is to remove the dental plaque which builds up on dentures and any remaining teeth, which can harm gums.
Adhesives – No matter how well dentures have been made to fit, they may not provide the same strong, biting surface as natural teeth. An adhesive can help in many ways by providing:
Protection - An adhesive can help prevent pieces of food getting stuck between the denture and gums, so a wider range of food can be enjoyed.
Confidence - An adhesive can hold dentures in place more firmly, so eating apples, crusty bread and other foods that may have been avoided can now be enjoyed. An adhesive also increases the ability to bite into foods without dislodging the denture. While dentures take some getting used to, and will never feel exactly the same as one's natural teeth, today's dentures are natural looking and more comfortable than ever.
There are two main types of dentures: full and partial. Your dentist will help you choose the type of denture that's best for you based on whether some or all of your teeth are going to be replaced and the cost involved. Please contact us on 1850 323 323 for more information.
