The key rules to follow when whitening your teeth this Christmas

On 19 Nov 2018

With so many parties and festive gatherings, we all want to look our best during the busy Christmas period. Teeth whitening is a fast and effective way to have your smile looking its brightest & best in time for Christmas.

We at Smiles Dental understand it can be hard to know how to get the best results in the safest way possible. That’s why we have put together our 5 key rules to follow when whitening your teeth this Christmas.
Christmas special offers

1. Consult your dentist on suitability

We always recommend consulting your Smiles Dental dentist to confirm whether your teeth are suitable for teeth whitening. Following this exam, your dentist can advise the best treatment for you, your teeth and your lifestyle.

2. Book a scale and polish before whitening

In order to get the best possible results, we recommend all our patients book in for a scale and polish before starting a teeth whitening treatment. This is particularly important if you have visible tartar built up on the outside of the teeth.

3. Avoid DIY acidic pastes

We strongly advise against using acidic pastes to remove surface stains under any circumstances. These at home pastes only “work” because the fruit’s acid wear away the outer layer of enamel to show the white layer underneath. The long term result will be worn, old, and discoloured teeth. As with all dental treatments, professional advice and treatment is always recommended.

4. Choose an option that works best for you

Before choosing a teeth whitening treatment, it’s important to consider:

• Your desired result
If you’re happy overall with your teeth’s colour and would just like to remove surface stains ahead of the busy Christmas period, a scale and polish could be just what you need. You can even give your smile that extra dazzle with our Smiles Dental whitening toothpaste. However, if you want to achieve results of up to 6 shades brighter, you should look at Philip’s Home Whitening Kit or the Philip’s Zoom Teeth Whitening.

• The time you can dedicate to the treatment:
For the Philip’s Home Whitening Kit, you will need to wear gel filled trays for one hour per day from 10 days up to three weeks. If you are very busy or need immediate results, you would be better to go for the in clinic Philip’s Zoom Teeth Whitening.

• Cost
