Advanced Technology

Technology in modern medicine keeps on improving and allows us to perform our tasks more efficiently, more precisely and with greater predictability. It may be the management system that allows us to send you text reminders to your mobile phone before your appointment automatically, keep efficient records of you treatment provided or indeed allow us to track you finances. It may be the ability to communicate with you and show you your options more clearly to improve your understanding of treatment proposed or provided.

Diagnostic technologies such as x rays , cat scanners (3D x rays), microscopes or intra-oral cameras help us detect problems and provide appropriate solutions at an earlier stage.

Therapeutic technologies such as the Cerec system actually help us provide restorations for you with new degrees of tolerance and aesthetic capabilities – and they can be provided in just one visit. For further details and examples of these ideas please do read on.

Intra-oral Camera

We utilise intra-oral camera technology that helps enhance your understanding of your diagnosis. An intraoral camera is a very small camera. In some cases, an intra-oral camera is the same size as a dental mirror. This allows us to view clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth and gums, in order for us to accurately make a diagnosis. Microscope Dentistry

Our practice uses high power operating microscopes to enhance the precision of patient care. Dentistry is micro-surgery. Using a similar microscope that an ophthalmologist uses facilitates the inspection and provision of dental restorations with an improved precision, fit and finish. Read more

Digital Imaging

We choose carefully how radiographs are taken. There are many national and international guidelines that we follow. Radiographs allow us to see what we cannot see with our own eyes. Radiographs enable us to detect cavities in between your teeth, determine bone level, and the health of bone. We can also examine the roots and nerves of teeth, diagnose lesions such as cysts or tumors, as well as assess damage when trauma occurs. Read more

Cat Scanner I- CAT and 3D Imaging

We had the first I-Cat in Europe of a new generation of ‘volume’ scanners. This allows us to view your tissues (skin profile, bone, nerves, sinuses) and existing teeth in three dimensions with reduced radiation and improved patient safety. Read more

Cerec Technology

We have been using the Cerec system in the practice now since 2001. As the first practice in Ireland to incorporate the Cerec system. Using a small “camera” to take an optical impression of your tooth or cavity, we can now design the new restoration on the computer, cut it out of a solid block of matching porcelain and fit it in the same visit. With the advantages of final restoration in one visit that means only one anesthetic, no temporary, reduced need for putty impressions and tooth coloured ceramic restoration. This technique can be used to provide white fillings, inlays, onlays, crowns, and veneers which are both aesthetically pleasing and have a proven prognosis. Read more
