Dental benefits

Smiles Dental will help you to get the full benefit of all your dental entitlements. Simply read below, or ask any of our front desk team how we can help save you money.

If you are currently employed and paying PRSI

If you are currently employed and paying PRSI you may be entitled to an annual free check-up and subsidised dental cleaning (scale and polish from €15). We can quickly check your eligibility using your PPS number at reception for you.

The rules are very straight forward, and you can test your eligibility and find out what entitlements you may have at www.gov.ie.

DeCare

Dental Insurance is a form of dental benefit that is becoming very popular both as an employee benefit arranged through the workplace or purchased individually directly from DeCare Dental. DeCare’s Healthy Smiles range of plans all provide 100% immediate cover for two dental exams, two dental cleanings and necessary X-rays each year, along with one emergency dental treatment per year. You can then choose to add up to 70% cover for treatments such as fillings, extractions, sealants and space maintainers for kids. Cover up to 60% is available for root canals and crowns. DeCare’s plans are comprehensive, covering up to 100 of the most common procedures in dentistry that are scientifically proven to be effective and contribute to good oral health. DeCare places great emphasis on promoting good oral health and in involved in a wide range of activities helping individuals and communities to improve and protect their oral health. DeCare Dental is a long established Dental Insurer and underwriter with over 50 years’ experience in the dental industry.

DeCare Dental members can redeem applicable insurance plans and special offers at the Smiles Dental network of clinics across Ireland.
DeCare operates a Direct Payment system with competitive rates for covered services at Smiles clinics for all its eligible members. DeCare pays Smiles Dental directly for covered dental services and the member pays only the relevant co-payment that applies to their dental plan.

Medical cards

Free dental services are available to adults over 16 years with a medical card through the Dental Treatment Service Scheme (DTSS).

Other treatments may be available to some patients, including dentures, certain gum treatments and additional fillings. Your dentist will let you know if these are available for you.

Deposits

A deposit of €30 is required to make a medical card appointment with Smiles Dental. This will be refunded to you when you arrive at your appointment.

Cancellations

48 hours’ notice is required for all medical card appointment cancellations.

Terms and conditions

  1. Offer only available at participating Smiles dental practices to new and existing patients aged 16 years or over.
  2. Offer only available to patients who hold a valid medical card issued by the Health Service Executive. Patients must quote “Medical Card” at the time of booking and show their valid medical card at the time of appointment.
  3. Treatments available to medical card holders under the Dental Treatment Service Scheme can be found here: https://www.hse.ie/eng/services/list/2/dental/
  4. The availability of specific treatments is subject to patient suitability and HSE guidelines, certain treatments may require prior approval from the HSE and in such cases, treatment will only proceed once approval is granted.
  5. A booking deposit of €30 is required. This is refundable once you complete your appointment.
  6. Appointments subject to availability.
  7. The number and type of treatments may be limited in each year and any non-eligible treatments will incur private charges. Treatments which are not covered under the Medical Card Scheme will be discussed with the patient in advance
  8. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer.
  9. No cash alternative to this offer is available.
  10. Offer may be withdrawn or amended at any time. Terms and conditions are subject to change based on any changes by HSE to the operation of the Medical Care Scheme
