Dr Ann Gilligan
Dr Ann Gilligan studied Dentistry in University College Cork and graduated in 2003. Ann has been a member of the Smiles Dental Team for five years and has a keen interest in mandibular repositioning devices and adult cosmetic braces.
Dr Ciara Cronin
Dr Ciara Cronin graduated from University College Cork with Honours and spent two years working in general practice in Waterford before returning to Cork to join Smiles Dental. Ciara is a gentle and caring dentist and has had great success in putting nervous patients at ease. She is committed to continually improving her skills and was awarded the Diploma in Primary Care Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland in 2015. In her spare time, Ciara enjoys running and has competed nationally and internationally.
Dr Grainne Cahill
Dr Grainne Cahill studied Dentistry at Trinity College Dublin where she graduated in 1980. After Grainne’s years in Trinity she moved to London and returned to Ireland ten years ago. Grainne has worked as a vocational trainer for eight years and practices all aspects of dentistry. For Grainne the best part of her job is helping nervous patients feel at ease.
Dr Liam O’Sullivan
Dr Liam O’Sullivan qualified from University College Cork, (NUI) in 1981 and practiced in the UK in general practice for a number of years. On returning to Ireland, he set up a private practice in 1990, offering routine, advanced restorative, cosmetic dentistry and orthodontics. This included the taking of continuing professional education courses in all of these areas including post-graduate studies in Trinity College Dublin.
The greatest problem facing the general dentist is the cosmetic/aesthetic replacement of lost or very damaged teeth. Therefore, a fascination with the possibilities offered in the use of dental implants to permanently replace missing teeth took hold in 2004. “This emerging area of dentistry can provide solutions and aesthetic results that could only be dreamed of when I first qualified.” There followed a series of courses in Europe, culminating in studies for the Diploma in Implant Dentistry, at the Royal College of Surgeons of England in London. Liam has been working with Smiles Dental at Waterloo Road, since 2011.
Dr Sarah Tobin
Dr Sarah Tobin qualified as a dental surgeon from University College Cork in 2005. She completed a years vocational training in London. She then spent nine years in general practice in the UK. During this time she developed a special interest in Endodontics (Root canal treatments). Sarah completed her Masters in Endodontics in 2013 and graduated with Merit from the University of Chester. She attained her MFDS with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2012 and completed an advanced one year cosmetic course with Advanced Dental Seminars in London.
Sarah has an interest in all aspects of general dentistry and has a relaxed friendly manner that helps to put patients at ease. Sarah is a member of the Irish Dental Association and is committed to constantly updating her knowledge and keeping abreast of current trends in dentistry.
In her spare time Sarah likes to travel and swim and enjoys pilates and yoga.
Dr Siobhan Coakley
Dr Coakley graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2000. She spent several years in the UK working in dental practices in London and Kent. On her return to Ireland, Siobhan joined the HSE as a Dental Surgeon and practiced in Dublin and Kildare. In 2006, she undertook a Masters in Public Dental Health in University College Cork and her research focused on Fluoride Intake in Infants.
She is committed to ongoing professional development and regularly attends courses and conferences in Ireland and the UK. She enjoys all aspects of general dentistry.
Gemma Sexton RDH
Gemma is one of the longest standing members of the Smiles Dental Cork Team. She joined our clinic in 2006 as a qualified dental nurse and over the course of her employment has obtained her qualification as a dental hygienist from University College Cork. Gemma is committed to delivering the highest standard of care to all of her patients and has a genuine interest in educating them on how best to achieve excellent oral health from home.
Gemma is extremely thorough and never judgmental in her treatment. She is always interested in building a sincere relationship with the people she meets and we always receives great feedback. She has a fantastic rapport with children, who are always more than happy to be seen by her for general cleanings and fissure sealants. Gemma is kind, gentle and empathetic and has a true love for her job.
Dr Meriem Abbas BDS NUI MFDS
Dr Meriem Abbas graduated with Honours from University College Cork. She first worked in a busy NHS practice in the UK before coming back home to Cork. During her time in the UK Meriem had the opportunity to work with very anxious patients and thoroughly enjoys seeing the transformation that gentle patient care can achieve. Meriem has an interest in all aspects of dentistry and is fully committed to her continued development as a clinician. She has been awarded an MFDS from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and regularly attends courses and conferences in Ireland and the UK. In her spare time Meriem loves reading, painting and Pilates.
Dr Robert Hardy
Originally from Limerick, Robert qualified from Cardiff University in 2011 with honours and has previously worked in the U.K. before returning to Ireland.
Robert enjoys cosmetic treatment and further dental education having gained the membership diploma of The Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and is currently in the second year of an MSc in Primary Dental Care at the University of Edinburgh.
Outside work, he is a keen runner and cyclist.
