Training and qualifications

Dr Ali Afrasiabi obtained his Bachelor of Dental Science from Trinity College Dublin in 2006 and his Master’s in Endodontics from King’s College London.

As well as complex endodontic cases, Dr Ali has a special interest in restorative and cosmetic dentistry.

A popular member of the Smiles Dental Dundrum and South Anne Street team, Dr Ali enjoys keeping up-to-date with the latest techniques and clinical protocols in dentistry.

Training and qualifications

Dr Haitham Bashara has a strong interest in dental implant treatment, wisdom tooth extraction and dental tissue procedures such as root resection and tooth hemisection. He also has a keen interest in gingivectomy and gingivoplasty, involving gum tissue removal, and periodontal treatment and surgery.

In 1999, Haitham qualified with honours from the Tripoli Dental School and Hospital in Libya. In 2005, he completed his master’s degree in Periodontology and Implantology from Dublin Dental University Hospital, Trinity College, and in 2013, he received his PhD in Periodontology and Implantology from Trinity College Dublin. During his career, Haitham has taught postgraduate students in Ireland, Libya and Bahrain and he’s currently a trainer for the Membership in Advanced General Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Training and qualifications

Dr Sadhbh O’Rourke qualified as a dentist with honours from Trinity College Dublin. Following this, she worked as a junior house officer in the Dublin Dental University Hospital and a senior house officer in Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin and Temple Street. She has also been working as a general dentist for the last few years before joining the team at Smiles South Anne Street.

Dr O’Rourke gained invaluable experience in treating dental emergencies while working in the dental hospital, and she always strives to solve dental issues quickly and get patients out of pain. She has had a special interest in treating children and is happy to see children of all ages.  

Dr O’Rourke has published several scientific papers and is dedicated to continued professional development to provide the most up-to-date care for all her patients   

Dr. Kostas Efthymiou, DDS, Dip. Orth, MSc (Orth)

Specialist orthodontist

Training and qualifications

Dr. Kostas Efthymiou qualified as a dentist from the School of Dentistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 2001. He then worked in private general dental practice in England before pursuing his post-graduate orthodontic studies. In 2003, he started a three year full-time specialist training programme in Orthodontics at the School of Dentistry of Marmara University. In 2006 he received his Specialty Diploma in Orthodontics and was awarded a Master’s Degree in Orthodontics with Honours. Shortly after his graduation he earned the title of the Dental Specialty in Orthodontics in Greece. Since then, he has been in the exclusive practice of orthodontics.

Kostas is a Registered Specialist in Orthodontics (Irish Registration #4DS09) and has presented his research at the 83rd and 84th European Orthodontic Society Conferences in Berlin (2007) and in Lisbon (2008). He is currently a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Greek Orthodontic Society and the Orthodontic Society of Ireland and he is a Fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists.

Kostas has been the principal orthodontist at Smiles Orthodontics since January 2009 and has build an excellent reputation for achieving first class results and providing high quality orthodontic care to his patients. He has extensive experience with the latest advances in orthodontics such as Damon® Braces, Invisalign® and Incognito™ Lingual Braces and he loves creating beautiful and healthy smiles that enhance his patients’ self-confidence and quality of life.

Training and qualifications

Dr Leonardo Collazo trained at Trinity College Dublin and received his Bachelor of Dental Science and Bachelor of Arts in 2019. He has since acquired the Diploma of Primary Care Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and completed the RCSI Membership of the Faculty examinations.
Leonardo enjoys all areas of dentistry but has a particular interest in cosmetic dentistry and minimally invasive techniques.

In addition to general restorative procedures Leonardo places a strong emphasis on prevention to help his patients achieve and maintain optimal oral health. Leonardo speaks English and Spanish. He’s committed to his Continuing Professional Development (CPD), regularly attending dental workshops and courses.

Training and qualifications

Dr Grainne Gillespie is an experienced dentist providing treatment for patients of all ages at Smiles South Anne Street. Dr Gillespie qualified as a dentist from Trinity College Dublin with a first class honours degree. She was awarded the Trinity College Gold Medal, the Dental Council Prize in Restorative and Periodontal Dentistry and the Dental Council Prize in Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology. Grainne worked as a senior house officer and junior house officer in the Dublin Dental University Hospital.

Grainne is passionate about providing the highest standard of emergency dentistry to patients. Grainne has gained experience in restorative dentistry, dental extractions and children’s dentistry whilst working in the Dublin Dental University Hospital, all of which allows her to work with a wide array of patients here at our busy dental clinic.
