Smiles Dental Dundrum – Meet the team

Dr Alaa Aljibouri qualified from the Dental School/ Baghdad University of Iraq in 2000. Alaa worked as a Junior House Officer and Senior House Officer for a few years in Baghdad and next, he travelled to the UK in 2005, where he completed the International Qualification Exams. Alaa joined the Smiles Dental team in 2009, first at Smiles Dental Tallaght and then settled into Smiles Dental Dundrum. Alaa enjoys all parts of general dentistry; and has a special interest in all surgical aspect procedures. He frequently carries out crown, root canal and bridge procedures. Alaa has just completed a post-graduate diploma in Clinical Dentistry from the Dublin Dental School and Hospital. He also completed a nine-month course in dental implants recently.

In 2006, Dr. Ali Afrasiabi qualified from Trinity College Dublin with a bachelor’s degree in Dental Science. He has also gained an MSc in Endodontics from King’s College London, which he completed with distinction.

Since graduating, Ali has worked in private practice and completed dentistry courses in implant dentistry, restorative dentistry and endodontics. He keeps up-to-date with the latest techniques and clinical protocols in dentistry.

Master Dental Science Orthodontics year 1993

Anastasios graduated from the Dental School of Athens, Greece in 1986, before completing a three-year master’s programme in orthodontics at Lund University, Sweden in 1993. His experience includes working in private practice and at Health Service Executive, Dublin, for eight years, where he treated patients with a variety of severe malocclusions. He continues to be amazed at the results that modern orthodontic treatments can achieve. Anastasios has developed a patented technique using orthodontic implants or micro screws to correct crowding, without needing to extract teeth. His technique won an international award for novelty from Primary Care Trust in 2014.

Dr Fernanda Roese Mesquita graduated from Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil in 2005. She later completed further education and training in Portugal, after which she was working in UK, she joined the Smiles Dental team in 2018.
Fernanda thinks that the patient’s journey is as important as the quality of  the treatment. Alongside with general dentistry, she has a particular interest in cosmetic ortho, Invisalign and Six Months Smiles.

Dr Martin Robledo qualified in 2000 at the National University of Rosario, Argentina. Martin joined Smiles Dental in 2010 and his favourite part of being a dentist is establishing trust and trying to break the initial phobia related with the dental treatments. Martin loves listening to the patients and making them feel at ease, as he feels it is a great reward. Martin also enjoys all facets of general dentistry, especially oral surgery and root canal treatments.

Dr Mohamed Alhag received his Bachelor of Dental Science in 1994. Mohamed worked for five years in a general dental practice before commencing a full time Master’s programme in Periodontology and Dental Implants in the Dublin Dental School and Hospital. In October 2004, Mohamed completed his Master’s programme and in 2009 he completed his PhD in the same field, in that same year Mohamed joined the Smiles Dental team.

Mohamed is also a member of the Society for the Advancement of Anesthesia in Dentistry and trained in oral and IV sedation for any nervous or anxious patients. Mohamed has worked exclusively in the field of periodontics and dental implants for many years and he also has an additional three years of unique specialist training, which provides him with expertise in healthy teeth and gums. Mohamed’s favourite aspect of his job is helping the prevention of tooth sensitivity, bleeding gums as well as the management of receding gums and providing excellent overall oral hygiene to the patients.

Dr. Hone was born and raised in Dublin and qualified from The Royal College of Surgeons In Ireland in Medicine in 1990. After completing his Internship, Dr. Hone returned to College to study Dentistry, qualifying with an Honors Degree from Trinity College Dublin in 1994.

He went on to train in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the UK, where He achieved the Fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons London Award in both – Dental Surgery and General Surgery – in 1997. Dr. Hone then began a three year Specialist Orthodontic Training Program at Guys Hospital London, completing his Specialist Orthodontic Training in 2002. At the same year, He was awarded a Membership in Orthodontics from Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.

Dr. Hone worked at St James Hospital Orthodontic Unit as a Specialist and was a Tutor in Orthodontics in the Dublin Dental Hospital from 2002 to 2006. He then worked in his own practice before joining the Smiles Dental Swords team in early 2020.

Dr. David Hone is part of the Specialist Orthodontist List of the Dental Council of Ireland and is a member of the Orthodontic Society of Ireland.

Kate enjoys building relationships with her patients and ensuring they’re relaxed and comfortable throughout their journey. She enjoys general dentistry and has an interest in cosmetic dentistry. Kate graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2017 and completed her vocational training in general practice in Newcastle, England. She spent two years working in a mixed NHS and private family practice in Edinburgh, before returning to Ireland in 2020 and joining our team. Kate has completed courses focused on a variety of treatments including Invisalign and composite bonding.

Astabrk enjoys restorative and endodontic dentistry and has a particular interest in the diagnosis, treatment and management of oral cancers. Astabrk graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2019. During his studies, he was involved in conducting research, audits and presentations as well as intensive clinical training in all aspects of dentistry. Astabrk has experience in oral surgery and oral medicine but particularly enjoys restorative and endodontic dentistry. He has completed multiple electives in Tallaght University Hospital, St James’s Hospital and dental hospitals in the maxillofacial and oncology units . His greatest area of interest is the diagnosis, treatment and management of oral cancer.

Toni is passionate about dentistry and takes care to ensure her patients feel relaxed and comfortable. She qualified as a dental nurse in 2016, before continuing her studies and completing a BSc in Dental Practice Management with Oral Health Promotion in 2017. In 2021, she completed her dental hygiene studies from University College Cork.

Dr Shkre Agkhre received his honours degree in Dental Science from the prestigious university of Benghazi in 2010. After spending four years as a general dentist, Shkre went on to complete an additional five years of specialist training. During this time he perfected the art and science of aesthetic and reconstructive dentistry (prosthodontics).

In 2020, Shkre completed his specialist training and obtained a doctorate in Prosthodontics from Trinity College, Dublin. In August of the same year, he began working as a prosthodontist. Shkre receives referrals from general dentists and other dental specialists to assist them in the management of complex and challenging treatments.

Shkre is devoted to his profession and never stops learning new and innovative techniques to bring to our patient community. He is both skilled and experienced in the provision of high quality solutions, and treating patients’ often challenging dental problems.

Shkre is sensitively attuned to the concerns of his patients. He combines his scientific background with an artistic eye to bring the highest quality of personalised care to each of his patients.

Dr Caroline Fleming is a highly experienced dentist offering implant dentistry, oral surgery, periodontal treatments and more.

Training and qualifications: Dr Caroline Fleming qualified from Trinity College Dublin in 2002 with an honours degree. Since then she has worked in various hospital roles and in private practice in both London and Dublin.

Caroline has a particular interest in oral Surgery and dental implants, having gained extensive experience as both a senior house officer and speciality doctor in oral and maxillofacial surgery in the U.K.

She is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, has been awarded a certificate in periodontology and is undertaking a diploma in implant dentistry through the Royal College of Surgeons.

Treatments offered: Caroline has been placing and restoring dental implants for over 10 years. Caroline is known for her caring manner and is particularly experienced in undertaking extractions for nervous patients, regularly performing intravenous sedation following formal training with Sedation, Analgesia and Anxiety management for Dentistry (SAAD) in the U.K.
