Removable clear aligners
What are removable clear aligners?
Clear aligners are crafted from transparent plastic and look similar to retainers or mouth guards. They are a virtually-invisible option for teeth straightening, particularly popular with adults who don’t want to wear traditional fixed braces and those with less severe misalignment issues.
Clear aligners are custom made and moulded to your teeth for a comfortable fit. In order to be effective, the aligners should be worn for between 20 and 22 hours a day, only removed when eating, drinking and brushing your teeth.
Why choose removable clear aligners?
- Clear aligners are suitable for issues including gaps between teeth and minor crowding. In some cases, they can also help rectify issues like overbites and overjets
- Discreet and barely noticeable, clear aligners are ideal for people who feel self-conscious about having fixed braces
- Because they’re removable, clear aligners don’t require you to avoid foods which aren’t suitable for eating with other types of braces
- Clear aligners are made from flexible thin plastic, so they fit comfortably over your teeth
There are several different brands of clear aligners for teeth straightening, and some types of aligners may be more suitable for your specific needs. Book an appointment at your local Smiles Dental clinic to discuss your options.
During the course of your treatment, you’ll be given a series of clear aligners to wear one after another. These will need to be worn for 20-22 hours each day, and you’ll have a new aligner to wear almost every week.
Some patients have ‘engagers’ attached to their teeth. These are temporary attachments – like tiny bumps made from a tooth-coloured material – which make sure the aligners apply pressure to the correct parts of the tooth.
Clear aligners are a private orthodontic option and their cost depends on factors including the brand chosen, the length of treatment time and the severity of your misalignment. After an initial consultation at your Smiles Dental clinic, your dentist or orthodontist will draw up a bespoke treatment plan and outline the costs for you.
