Training and qualifications

Dr Khalid Alfarsi is a specialist orthodontist with an array of qualifications, holding 11 prestigious credentials in the field of orthodontics. He earned his dental degree from University College Cork and went on to complete a three-year postgraduate program in orthodontics, where he also obtained a master’s degree in the specialty.  

His qualifications span multiple royal colleges, including the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, England, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. He holds diplomas such as the MFDS (Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery) and MORTH (Membership in Orthodontics) from RCPS Glasgow & RCSEd and RCS England as well as the highly regarded FFD (ORTHO) (Fellowship in Orthodontics) RCSI. Additionally, Dr Khalid is a board-certified orthodontist, making him one of the highest qualified professionals in his field in Ireland.

Dr Khalid is registered on the Specialist List in Orthodontics with the Dental Council of Ireland, affirming his expertise and dedication to his profession. 

Dr Khalid is also a member of the Orthodontics Society of Ireland, the European Orthodontics Society, and the American Association of Orthodontists. Outside of work, Dr Khalid is passionate about football, playing up to four times a week, and is an avid supporter of Liverpool FC. 

Dr Reza Aghasizadeh Sherbaf is a highly accomplished Specialist Oral Surgeon with a career defined by clinical precision and academic rigor. Fully registered on the Irish Dental Council Specialist Register (5DS23), he brings over seven years of intensive experience and a track record of more than 14,000 successful surgical interventions.

Dr Reza specializes in advanced oral surgery, providing evidence-based solutions for complex cases. His surgical focus includes:

Dentoalveolar Surgery: Expert management of high-volume impacted wisdom tooth (5,000+ cases), complex surgical extraction, coronectomy, surgical crown lengthening, apicectomy, cystectomy, and surgical exposure.

Oral Medicine and compromised patients: Extensive experience in managing oral mucosal conditions and performing surgery for medically compromised patients within a specialist framework.

Implantology: Proficiency in dental implant placement (2,000+), sinus lifts, and advanced bone grafting (GBR).

Academic & Professional Background:

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Reza holds a Ph.D. (awarded 2025), with research focusing on the correlation between oral hygiene and systemic health. This academic depth, combined with his background in dental education at the University of Szeged, allows him to provide holistic, patient-centred care within a modern multi-disciplinary team.

Training and qualifications

Dr Morgan O’Sullivan completed an Honours Science Degree in 2001 before embarking on a career in dentistry. He qualified from Manchester University in 2008 and worked for one year in a mixed private/NHS practice in the UK. He returned to Ireland in August 2009 and worked in a private practice in County Carlow before joining the Smiles Dental team in January 2011. Morgan especially likes treating nervous patients to reduce fear and dental phobia.

Dr Yusuf Patel graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 1982. On completion of his studies he spent 12 months working and travelling in South Africa where he was born. In 1983 he moved to England where he worked in an NHS practice for four years. During this time he yearned for the African sun and returned to Cape Town where he lived for the next 12 years. His time there was spent both in private practice and teaching undergraduate dentistry at the University of Western Cape. In 1999 Yusuf moved to England and worked in general practice. He has now relocated to Ireland joining Smiles Dental and enjoys carrying out all aspects of dentistry.

Dr Mohamed Alhag received his Bachelor of Dental Science in 1994. Mohamed worked for five years in a general dental practice before commencing a full time Master’s programme in Periodontology and Dental Implants in the Dublin Dental School and Hospital. In October 2004, Mohamed completed his Master’s programme and in 2009 he completed his PhD in the same field, in that same year Mohamed joined the Smiles Dental team.

Mohamed is also a member of the Society for the Advancement of Anesthesia in Dentistry and trained in oral and IV sedation for any nervous or anxious patients. Mohamed has worked exclusively in the field of periodontics and dental implants for many years and he also has an additional three years of unique specialist training, which provides him with expertise in healthy teeth and gums. Mohamed’s favourite aspect of his job is helping the prevention of tooth sensitivity, bleeding gums as well as the management of receding gums and providing excellent overall oral hygiene to the patients.

Dr Diarmuid Moloney graduated from Cork Dental School in 2007. He worked for three years in Scotland in a mixed NHS/private practice. While in Scotland, he completed a one-year Vocational Training course and his MFDS examinations at Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. Diarmuid returned to Ireland in June 2010 and took up his position at Smiles Dental Wexford. Diarmuid especially enjoys endodontics (root canal treatment) and crown treatment.

Caroline Kelly is a Semmelweis University (Budapest) graduate and PhD candidate investigating the relationship between oral health and systemic diseases. She combines a gentle, patient-focused approach with the latest scientific insights, making every visit informative, calm and personalised. Caroline puts patients at ease while guiding them towards healthier, more confident smiles.

Training and qualifications

Sarah O’Brien qualified as a dental nurse in 2013 and worked in a private dental practice for two years. She then returned to Cork University Dental School and Hospital, where she trained and qualified as a dental hygienist in 2017. Sarah gained experience in the dental field over the years as both a dental nurse and a hygienist, especially when working with nervous patients. Sarah treats all her patients with empathy and compassion while using a gentle but thorough approach for their hygiene appointments.
