Brace for impact: Teeth Straightening for Adults
On 9 Jan 2018
Long gone are the days when braces and teeth straightening were just for children and teenagers – teeth straightening for adults has arrived. It’s 2018 and adults all over Ireland are taking the power into their own hands and straightening their smiles. With discreet options now commonplace, it’s no wonder that we’re seeing a constant increase in adults that we treat for orthodontics (teeth straightening).
At Smiles Dental we offer the best in class of teeth straightening for adults at competitive prices. From Invisalign, to Six Month Smiles and traditional teeth straightening we can take care of you. We even have three practices, dedicated purely to the art of straightening smiles.
Ageing gracefully
As you get older, you need to pay attention to your teeth and their condition. It’s not uncommon for teeth to drift into new and problematic positions as we get older. Teeth can shift and become overcrowded or begin to overlap one another. This in turn can lead to issues with your bite and cleaning your teeth effectively.Of course, it’s important to look after your teeth no matter what age you are. But it’s also important to understand that even in adulthood, if you’re unhappy with the position of your teeth, there are safe and professional options available to you. At Smiles Dental our Orthodontists are fully qualified and registered with the Irish Dental Council. A healthy oral care routine will help prevent periodontal disease, that can cause your teeth to drift more causing gaps to get bigger. This is usually a painless affliction so it is often too late before people realise they have an issue. Regular visits to your Smiles Dentist (about once every six months) will prevent this.
Orthodontic treatment with Smiles Dental
Orthodontic treatment is all about moving your teeth into a healthy, functional and aesthetically pleasing position. The first step in treatment is to have a consultation with a Specialist Orthodontist – it just so happens that Smiles Orthodontics South Anne St offer free initial consultations; worth keeping in mind. The Orthodontist will assess the condition of your teeth and recommend a course of treatment based on your specific needs and desired outcome.Orthodontics has advanced greatly in recent years. With adults in mind, a wide range of discreet options are now available. It’s now possible to wear brace systems that are so discreet that people won’t even know you have them on. Examples include: ‘hidden’ lingual braces that are fixed to the back of your teeth, white ceramic braces, or clear plastic aligners – all very hard to see. The length of time required varies from treatment to treatment. Some braces need to be worn between 12 and 18 months, in other cases your smile could be straighter in as little as six months. You’ll need to visit your Orthodontist regularly during the treatment time so they can adjust your braces and keep an eye on progress.
When the big day arrives and the braces come off, your Orthodontist will fit you with a retainer – the purpose of which is to retain the new position of your teeth. You’ll wear the retainer at nighttime. Over time, you may be able to reduce the number of nights you wear it.
