Fixed braces

Fixed braces are braces that cannot be removed for eating or cleaning purposes, as they are attached to the teeth. We have four options for fixed braces at Smiles Dental:

Metal braces
These fixed braces are the type of braces you most commonly see people wearing. Small metal attachments or brackets are bonded to the front of the teeth and are joined together with fine metal wires (sometimes known as “train-tracks”). These braces are the most sophisticated available. They may be the only way that a severe problem can be corrected by the orthodontist.

Ceramic braces
Ceramic braces are a form of fixed brace that is bonded to the front of the teeth. Instead of the traditional metal attachments, the brackets are made of a tooth-coloured or clear ceramic material. These braces are not quite as strong as metal ones and are not suitable for every type of correction. Ceramic braces are less visible and slightly more expensive than metal braces. They also have longer treatment times.

Lingual braces
Lingual braces are worn behind the teeth, on the inside and may be stuck to the teeth in the traditional way. They have the advantage of being nearly invisible. They can however be difficult to wear. These braces may be appropriate for use in only some types of orthodontic corrections.

Incognito™ orthodontic braces
Placed on the inside surface of the teeth, Incognito Orthodontic Braces are completely hidden from view. Incognito Orthodontic Braces are custom made in a laboratory to fit your mouth to exact mesaurements.
